To give credit where it is due, I did not design this room alone. Todd, my mom and I made it a joint effort. From the start, I knew I did not want a “themed” nursery for our little one. I just didn’t want a very babyish, cheesy look. That’s just not me! So before we knew our baby was a “he,” I began thinking of color palettes.
For a boy, I knew I wanted navy. Actually, I probably would have used navy either way! Along with that, I wanted mostly neutrals, and a pop of color. We decided that pop should be orange.
To start, my mom and I began looking at fabrics. (She is my go-to design expert). We went to multiple stores and had many options, but ultimately decided on a few: neutrals with navy blue ikat trim, and a soft bronze metallic thread for the bedding, tan and white small herringbone for the chair, navy blue ikat pillow, and navy and tan wide stripe panels for the window treatments. We hired someone to sew the bedding, chair pad, and pillow.
I bought navy and tan panels for the windows, and my mom transformed them into the striped look. My mom and I also found a small ottoman at HomeGoods that we knew would work, even before the other final decisions were made. It was a linen, neutral look, which I loved.
After that, Todd and I picked a gray paint for the walls.
Next we had to consider furniture. I was set on the Jenny Lind crib. The spindle railing was perfect for the look I hoped to achieve. I bought mine from Wayfair. Ours is darker than this, though.
We also knew we wanted a mix of dark and neutral furniture. My mother-in-law offered a glider she had, and the stain was so close to the crib color. Also, we refinished one of my brother’s old chest of drawers that my parents offered. The last piece needed was a bookshelf. This one from Ikea worked perfectly.
I will do another post with more details in the nursery. I love being able to share my favorite house project yet!
Here are some pictures of the glider (with Davis and I) 🙂

I love this color for our nursery. Do you happen to remember the color? We have been having a hard time finding greys that don’t end up looking blue or purple when we get the on the walls. Thanks

Hi Jessica,
I am so sorry – I checked in our old paint supply and I can’t find this color. I’m not sure why we didn’t save it! If I do come across it I will let you know!
Thank you,
Lindsay
