Infused water and tea is everywhere these days. Pictures of pretty drinks with fruit and herbs floating in them are flooding Pinterest and Instagram, and I’m joining the bandwagon.
With the warmer weather, I have strayed from my normal hot drink choices at Starbucks, and recently tried the shaken Teavana green tea, unsweetened. Though theirs is great, I realized I could very easily make a copycat recipe at home!
This recipe is similar to the Starbucks version, and is also visually appealing with the floating fruit and mint. Green tea is chock-full of antioxidants, and I swear I felt much more full the afternoon I was drinking it.
I mixed decaf and regular green tea, because I don’t like to have too much caffeine in the afternoons unless I truly need it. I bought an abundance of strawberries the day I made this, which is why they’re included. You could make this with a variety of fruit…peaches, apples, any berries, oranges. Cucumber would be great, too!
Detox Green Tea with Strawberries, Citrus, Mint
- 4 cups filtered water
- 4 bags green tea (2 decaf, 2 regular – or your preference)
- 5 strawberries, sliced
- 7 mint leaves
- 1 large lemon, or 1 small lemon + 1 small lime, sliced
- ice
Bring water to a simmer in a pot. Add the tea bags and steep for 3 1/2 minutes. Remove tea bags and add some ice to the pot. Place ice, then the fruit in a pitcher. Pour the tea over and let sit for 30 minutes in the refrigerator before drinking to allow the flavors to come together.
*If you want this sweetened, add a little stevia or honey.
Enjoy!
Once I was done drinking tea, I left the fruit in my cup and added water for fruit-infused water.
