No one likes a cold, and having a cold as a parent is especially tough. Taking care of kids while sick is no fun at all! With Davis in preschool, germs tend to make it into our home more often these days. Especially this time of year, it is important to have healthy solutions to combat the germs. From my personal experience this is a highly effective, natural way to fight a cold.
I try to keep our family healthy and our immune systems boosted even when we are not sick. We try to avoid too much sugar and eat plenty of vegetables. Todd and I also take supplements and we all take a probiotic to help. But everyone gets sick some time or another!
Last week I felt a cold coming on, and I was determined to stop it. While I was up in the middle of the night with Ridge I did some research. I read more about the benefits of ginger, lemon, cayenne, and oregano, and I also learned how to juice ginger.
Ginger is an anti-inflammatory, antifungal, it helps with digestion, boosts immunity, reduces pain, etc etc! Cayenne is a powerful antioxidant and also breaks up mucus congestion. Lemon is full of vitamin C, it aids in detoxing the body, and it also helps the body produce collagen. Oregano is a powerful antibacterial, anti-viral, and can help significantly with upper respiratory infections. These are just a few of the benefits of each of these nutritional powerhouses!
I drank this as a wellness shot 2x per day for 2 days, and it seriously helped. I’ve also been drinking decaf green tea with ginger juice, lemon juice, and a bit of honey.
Here’s a tip: try NOT to get the wellness shot on your lips. The cayenne and oregano oil are serious. If it does burn a little, it goes away quickly!
The measuring cup picture has the instructions for making ginger juice, and I’ve included the overall Wellness Shot recipe below.

We regularly juice ginger and made ginger beer(non alcoholic with homemade sparkling water) and keep in the fridge. It will last about a week, but I’m obsessed with it and polish it off in a couple days with the help of my husband!
