Happy Friday! Before you go any further…if you’re looking for some birthday planning ideas for your little one, check out my post from yesterday. We had a basketball themed first birthday party for Davis. It was quite a slam dunk, I must say. Yes, I did actually type that.
Anyway, back to the important stuff. It’s Friday, it’s sunny, my husband will be home all weekend, we have fun plans, and tomorrow is my mom’s birthday! Happy happy happy early birthday to my mom! She is THE best and I am so incredibly thankful for her. Lots to be happy about!
I’m joining up with the ladies of Five on Friday again this week. Thank you to April, Darci, Christina, and Natasha for hosting.
ONE: I’m so late to the party on this one! I’ve recently found out that I really like using coconut oil on my skin. My face has looked terrible lately, and my skin overall has been ridiculously dry. I decided to try coconut oil again after doing some research, and I really like it. It has added moisture, the skin tone on my face looks more even, and the cracks on my fingers have healed. It is oily, but soaks in well. I use this kind from Trader Joe’s, but it would probably be better to find an extra virgin kind.
TWO: Speaking of skin…Todd and I were watching tv the other night and a skin care commercial came on. Olivia Wilde is their spokesperson, and she said she has bad skin. Um, no. I may have said some choice words at her for saying that, because we all know her skin is far from bad. Anyhow, I can’t be mad at her any more after seeing her at the Golden Globes. Seriously, what motivation for future pregnancies! Not that the average person can easily look like that, but still. She was my favorite of the night. Props to her for pulling it off. She looked amazing.
THREE: This weekend we’re going to a Hornets I mean Bobcats game. They’re playing the Heat. I’m excited to go out and to see the game, but I’m also excited for next year, when the Buzz will officially be back in town.
FOUR: I saw this sideswept bangs tutorial from Camille Styles the other day, pinned it, and tried it. It really worked, and I can actually do my hair this way all by myself! I still need some practice, but for when I style my hair instead of wearing a ponytail it has truly helped the look of my “bangs.” I have so much baby hair growing in around my forehead, so this helps camouflage that some. If you have long layers in your hair and around your face, try it!
FIVE: This quote. We need people. Another thing that needs to be added to this list: ongoing group texts with girlfriends!
Thank you all for reading! Cheers to the weekend!

Lindsay! Loving your Five, and your post from yesterday was to die for! Haleigh raved about how fabulous it was! And girl, I hear you on the skin thing. I acutally make my own face and body scrub with coconut oil (and am thinking about opening an Etsy shop eventually) and it’s really helped! Coconut oil is the best, and I really want to try incorporating it into other areas too! Lovely post!

Loved Olivia’s green dress that night!! Also, I am so terrible at trying to follow anything hair tutorial related but I’m hoping to try this one this weekend! haha Happy Weekend!

Jessi, yes she looked gorgeous! Haha, I am normally not very good at trying new hairstyles, but this one is pretty simple! Good luck trying it-you can do it! Happy weekend to you as well!

Great Five! I had an “aha!” moment with bangs styling recently, it makes a big difference. I have SO many baby hairs at the front, and side bangs definitely help that. Plus I feel like side bangs give your hair a little more style even with a ponytail. Have a great weekend! 🙂

Any other bangs tips? If so, please share! My baby hairs are driving me crazy! I should be thankful, because at least it’s better than my hair falling out. 😉 Haven’t tried styling my hair this way with a ponytail. Great idea! Thank you for commenting

Hi! Honestly it’s just rocking some side bangs, having them cut like longer side swept bangs? I will have some new pictures up shortly, but it just kind of masks all the tiny baby hairs. Mine are soo bad my hair always looked ridiculous in a ponytail with my crazy baby hairs in the front. Also if you just aren’t feeling the bangs for a day, I found a really cute thin sparkly stretchy headband, so that styled with a ponytail is only a minute of effort and still cute. 🙂

That’s a good idea. I’m due for a hair cut, so maybe I’ll focus more on longer side bangs. And I love the headband idea!! Mine looks crazy in a ponytail too. Let’s hope these baby hairs grow in quickly!

I use the same coconut oil and it is truly a holy grail product for me! I’ll have to try that bangs tutorial.
sevenlayercharlotte says
Mandy, do you use the coconut oil on your hair, too?! I’m kind of scared to try that. Thank you for commenting! Have a good weekend
Mandy says
Yes I slather it on and then sleep with it in a bun! I have really thick hair and haven’t had any issue with washing it out but I’ve heard from others with thin hair that it stayed in their hair for multiple washes. I say try it and see how it works out for you!
sevenlayercharlotte says
Thanks for the idea, Mandy! I’m eager to try it – can’t hurt!!

THAT HORNETS SHIRT IS AMAZING. My childhood in a nutshell. I had a hornets themed bday party in 2nd grade and wore my Mugsy jersey (duh). On a different note, TJ’s coconut oil is also my jam. 😉
Happy weekend!!! xx

Hi Elise! Yes – the Hornets from when we were younger – classic! It’s actually a shirt from my husband’s Etsy shop (they sell sports-themed apparel). So awesome that you wore a Mugsy jersey and had a Hornets birthday party. You are a true fan!! Happy weekend to you as well!!

I’ve been using Coconut Oil on my children and their very dry skin and son’s eczema. It has really kept their skin moisturized. It’s also yummy in recipes! My daughter loves to eat it by the spoonful. Very very healthy for you. We love it!
sevenlayercharlotte says
Thank you for the ideas, Emily! I have wondered if I could use it on my son, and was planning to do some research to find out. I appreciate you telling me that – I’ll try it on him!
