For today’s 5 I thought I’d do something different! I’ve been trying to figure what what I want to buy for Spring and Summer, so I thought I’d focus my 5 this week on what I consider some of the essentials for this upcoming season. Though I never buy a whole lot when the seasons change, I do try to add at least a couple new things as the weather and styles change.
Full disclosure – I am not a fashionista. I usually dress casually, and I am often in workout clothes all day. But I do try and pay attention to what is in style. Not in style for models – what’s in style for women like me, and what would fit into my life. I need outfits for normal life activities: errands, chasing around a toddler, date nights, church, play dates, weekends away. Nothing glamorous, but it can’t hurt to try looking cute!
I hope you enjoy seeing a few of my Spring essentials this Friday! Thank you to April, Christina, and Natasha for hosting.
ONE: Distressed Jeans. They work with ankle boots, flats, sandals, and tennis shoes. I especially love these paired with a striped shirt. (I could make Stripes an essential, but it’s too obvious!) These distressed jeans from Gap are my new favorites. I bought a size up and wear them cuffed so they’re more like a boyfriend look.
TWO: Camis. Spaghetti straps are back. A blousy easy cami can be dressy or casual. I’m excited about wearing this trend. They would be great under a leather jacket or blazer while it’s still cool, and alone with jeans, shorts or a skirt when it’s hot. The navy grid pattern cami is from Asos. I also like this black and white striped one, this mint one, and this long blue one from Asos.
THREE: Pastels. Besides the occasional Carolina blue, you’ll rarely ever find me in a pastel. Unless you count tan or beige. But I want to branch out a little this Spring. I love this light blue dressy halter top from Asos, this pink and gray striped scarf from Gap, along with these looks. The first two were found on Pinterest, and the last one (with the blue shorts) is from Old Navy.
FOUR: Athletic Look. I’m biased toward this, and I’m interpreting it to work with my style, but it is an actual fashion trend! How great! These and these shoes from J.Crew are an example. Todd gave me these Sauconys for Christmas, and I’ve lived in them. I’ve worn tennis shoes with jeans for the first time in years. I wear them with the jeans mentioned above, or with skinny, cuffed jeans.
FIVE: Fresh Accessories. A lightweight scarf like this light teal one from Nordstrom, and updated jewelry like some cute studs or bangles, or the items below. I don’t wear a lot of jewelry, besides a watch and ‘diamond’ studs, but it’s nice to have options when I want to put together a cute outfit or just wear something different.
Tortoise Cuff | Royal Blue Drop Earrings | Turquoise Drop Necklace
So even though it’s freezing cold and raining here, I’m anxiously awaiting Spring weather and saying goodbye to winter clothes. Happy Friday, everyone!
