Recent Beauty Buys

May 21, 2014

Though I wouldn’t consider myself a “beauty junkie,” I do love to try new products.  I am constantly trying to find things to help my skin (especially), but also my hair and nails.  (Click on this link to see a recent post I wrote on what has helped my skin).  I always read reviews before buying anything, and I thought this type of post might be helpful to some people!

Argan Magic Shampoo and Conditioner:  I learned about this while visiting friends in Charleston.  They had some and let me try it, and I was hooked!  It was my first time using something with argan oil on my hair.  It is not like conventional shampoo – it doesn’t lather or feel like soap.  I alternate using these products with “normal” shampoo and conditioner, but this is my new preference.  I am down to only washing my hair about 3 times per week, which is so nice!  This gives my hair some extra volume, because it doesn’t weigh it down at all!  Plus my hair is less frizzy, and I haven’t had to worry about baby hairs sticking up as much.  Having long hair can be a lot of work, but this has helped.

The link will take you to Amazon, but I found mine (for much cheaper!) at Marshall’s!

Urban Decay All-Nighter Makeup Setting Spray: This was more of a splurge purchase, but I did purchase the travel size!  I was told it will still last me 6 months +.  I heard about this finishing spray and thought it could be very useful for summer days when makeup tends to drip right off!  Plus, who likes to put in effort on their makeup in the morning, only to have it look bad by the end of the day?  This helps makeup stay put all day, plus it gives a dewy finish to your face.  I put all of my makeup on, except for my mascara, then use this product.  Once it’s dry (only takes a few seconds), I apply mascara.

Clarisonic Mia 2: The best!  When I posted about my off-brand version, a friend convinced me that the Clarisonic was worth the money, so Todd and Davis gave me one for Mother’s Day!  Seriously one of the best gifts.  I love the results and actually look forward to washing my face now.  Highly recommend.

NYX Butter Gloss in Tiramisu: I rarely wear anything on my lips besides Chapstick, but I’ve been wanting a good everyday something that adds just a little color.  This fits the bill!  It’s a gloss, but it isn’t too shiny and it is such a pretty color.

Orly Bonder: I’ve posted about this in a Five on Friday post, but thought I’d include it here, too.  It works great as a nail polish base!  Find it at Sally’s Beauty Supply or Ulta (usually sold out in stores, try online).

Bare Minerals BareSkin Foundation:  This is the new liquid foundation from Bare Minerals.  My old foundation was running low, and Ulta had stopped selling it.  I had read reviews by The Small Things Blog as well as Carrie Bradshaw Lied, so I thought I’d try it.  So far I’ve loved it!  I don’t wear foundation every day, but I’ve enjoyed using this when I want to put on “real” makeup. 😉  It’s light but full-coverage, easy to apply, and only takes a few drops.  I don’t know how well it would stay on if I was wearing it outside in the heat, but I try not to wear much makeup if I know I’m going to get sweaty anyway.

If you’ve tried any of these products, or have any other recommendations, I’d love to read about them in the comments!  Thank you for reading.
