Five on Friday

March 6, 2015

Well, I can’t say we’ve had the greatest week. I’ll give you a hint: loads and loads of laundry + Pedialyte + Thomas the Train on tv.  The stomach bug hit our house (so far only our little guy has gotten sick) and our internet was down part of the week. Poor timing for sure! And seeing your child sick is about the worst thing ever. I’m just so thankful that this is only a virus and that he is getting better.

I do still have my 5 on Friday! Trying to keep a bit of normalcy around here.

Linking up with April, Christina, Natasha, and Darci for Five on Friday; Erika, Narci, and Andrea for Friday Favorites; and Karli for Oh Hey Friday!

THE GOOD LIFE BLOG

ONE: Denim on denim with caramel brown for Spring. Did anyone see Shay’s Pin-spired post this week? I love the looks she picked, and I pinned the one below.  I have paired a chambray shirt with jeans many times, but I don’t think I’ve added a belt. I also have a bag like this one, and it is perfect for carrying everything: diapers, toys, laptop, etc etc. Mine is from Old Navy last year, but here is another affordable option from Forever 21.

TWO: The silk pillowcase. I don’t know why it has taken me so long to start sleeping on one, but I finally ordered some. Supposedly they help with wrinkles and they keep your hair more intact and less frizzy. I sleep with my face in my pillow – which is terrible for wrinkles – so I’m hoping this will help reduce the lines on my face when I wake up.

THREE: Balsamic Strawberry Crostini with Goat Cheese and Basil from Cooking for Keeps.  Make this!  It is delicious.  I made it for an event last week, and will definitely make it again.  Her pictures of this appetizer are gorgeous.  If you need an hors d’oeuvre for a baby shower, girls night, or even Easter, this is a great one! The strawberries are starting to be in season, and this is a perfect mix of sweet, salty, and slightly tangy. Plus, you’ve got to love pretty food!

FOUR: I downloaded the She Reads Truth app, and I’ve been keeping up with the devotion for Lent: “Jesus, Keep Me Near the Cross.” Highly recommend!  They have several other Bible-reading and devotional plans as well.

FIVE: This gorgeous mama turned 30 yesterday!!!! Casey and I have been friends for over 15 years, and she is like a sister to me. She lives in France, so we only see each other when she comes home once or twice a year. We dream of living in the same place and having coffee dates and girl time, but in the mean time, we text most days.  She is an incredible person and friend!  This is us with our kids last summer.

I love that bag! I’m looking to move on finally from the diaper bag but still need to carry a bunch so something like that might be worth checking out. Thanks for sharing and happy Friday!

Cat, it’s been a great option for me. I was quickly over the diaper bag, in favor of something more streamlined. Happy Friday to you as well!

Brooke, absolutely! Thank you for reading my blog. I just can’t kick the sleeping-on-my-stomach habit, so this will hopefully help. I’ll post an update once I’ve slept on it some. Have a nice weekend!

Hannah, the ones I found on Amazon were so inexpensive and had great reviews, so I figured it couldn’t hurt to try them. I will post a review after I’ve slept on it some. Thank you for stopping by!

Hi Lindsay! I have always read your blog but stumbled upon this post when I was searching for input on the effectiveness of silk pillowcases. I don’t know if you ever posted a review on these ones. Do you think you saw/felt a difference? Were the silk pillowcases worth it? Love your blog!

I’m sorry for the delay, Becky! You’re so sweet to follow along. Clearly I have taken a blog break recently, so I am trying to catch up. 😉 I think if you bought one a little nicer than ours, they would make a really big difference. I do think it has helped my hair-I never wake up with weird kinks in my hair, or hair stuck to my face. And usually some curls stay put. I doubt I will go back to a regular pillow case. This was a great reminder to buy a new silk one. Have a good day!
