Independence Day this year has to be my favorite to date! We enjoyed the long weekend with most of our family. The weekend seemed extra red-white-and-blue and patriotic! I loved seeing everyone’s festive instagram and blog posts.
We spent a few days at the beach with my family, then Todd’s family came to our house yesterday to celebrate the 4th and some July birthdays. Though the weekend was slightly lacking on sleep (the littles woke up bright and early at the beach), we had a blast. I should never take time with our families for granted!
Our beach trips are casual, with hardly any set plans. We wake up early, enjoy coffee and wrangle the toddlers, spend time at the beach playing bocce ball and corn hole, dig holes for the kids in the sand, play in the water (shallow this year – hello scary sharks!), eat too much food, then repeat after naps. We worked as a team to fix dinners, and played games once the babies were in bed (Catch Phrase with my grandparents is h i l a r i o u s!). Our beach house isn’t fancy, and we rarely put on “real” clothes, or wear makeup. It’s so great to get away from normal life and spend time in our family’s favorite place!
As we drove home Saturday night we were able to see some fireworks shows from the road! Todd’s family (besides his younger brother, Seth), came over on Sunday. There are several July birthdays, plus we were celebrating the 4th, and it was the first time most of them had seen our new house! We spent the morning exploring our new little town, then had an early cookout. We had such a great time, and I’m so happy and thankful for everyone coming over. We even got to have our first official meal on our new dining table!
I was still wanting my family to wear red, white, and blue. I wore my new Loft t-shirt dress, which I know will be worn far too often the rest of the Summer. Side note – how in the world to people take proper outfit photos/selfies? I’m awful at it!
