Friday Favorites

October 7, 2016

F R I D A Y! (And 8 days until my due date, but who’s counting?!)  Today I am linking up with the Friday Favorites crew: April, Christina, Natasha; Karli; Erika, Andrea, Narci; and Tif

We are anticipating some rain and wind here this weekend, but nothing like what people further south are experiencing with Hurricane Matthew.  For those of you in SC, GA, FL – we are praying!

ONE: Pumpkin bread, two ways.  I have been cooking and baking nonstop lately, and the focus this week has been pumpkin spice.  Hello Fall!  I posted my mom’s (amazing!) recipe earlier this week.  If you’re looking for a fantastic, classic pumpkin bread recipe, I highly recommend you try it! I also made some paleo pumpkin bread from The Paleo Running Momma.  I was so happy with the results, and plan to make another loaf this weekend!  It is wonderful toasted, with some grass-fed butter.

TWO: Were any of you able to visit Luke’s Diner this week?! I thought it was a genius way for Netflix to promote the revival of Gilmore Girls!  Not Just Coffee here in Charlotte was participating with free cups of coffee.  Our t-shirt company, Honor Roll Designs, made a shirt to celebrate the show’s revival, and we posted a few ways to style the shirt that honors some of our favorite TV personalities.  We have some sizes left, and we also have shirts honoring some of your other TV faves!

THREE: Fall play dough.  My son’s preschool recently gave us a recipe for homemade play dough, and Davis and I made a big batch of it together one afternoon.  We added some pumpkin spice to ours, and colored it to match the season!  Davis is not one to sit still, but he sat and played with this two afternoons in a row: success!  At first he was cutting out fall leaf and pumpkin shapes, then it evolved into making snakes and snake poop.  Boys ;).

FOUR: With everything that has happened in Charlotte lately – the shooting, the riots, the unrest – the guys wanted to use our t-shirt company to do some good.  They designed a shirt to support our city, and all proceeds from the sale of it will go to Urban Promise Charlotte, whose focus is on the youth of our city. This organization aims to develop strong leaders for our community’s future, and is such a cool way to focus on all of the good that is happening amidst the negative of the past few weeks.  We still have some of these shirts available, and we’d love for you to help us raise support for Urban Promise! (They are unisex sizes)

FIVE: Third Trimester Smoothie.  Have you all ever heard of some of the things you can eat and drink to help with labor?  Eating dates, taking evening primrose oil, eating pineapple, and drinking red raspberry leaf tea are a few of those things.  Do your own research, and consult your doctor or midwife, of course.  I have been attempting to ingest most of these things daily the last few weeks.  One way I’ve had pineapple and dates is in smoothies.  I made this tropical smoothie last week and wanted to share the recipe: 1 banana, 3 dates, 2 Tbsp unsweetened coconut flakes, a handful of frozen pineapple chunks, dash nutmeg, unsweetened almond milk.  Blend together and enjoy!

Love the Gilmore Girls shirts! I wanted to make it to Luke’s for coffee but couldn’t because of work 🙁 Thought it was a great promotional idea though!
