I’m taking a quick break from Whole 30 recipes to share our Easter weekend (a couple weeks late). I also wanted to share about resurrection rolls. This was our first year making them, and Davis and I really enjoyed it. It was a chance to talk about the details of Jesus’ burial, and it is such a clear illustration for kids! Plus it’s an easy, kid-friendly dessert to have that weekend.
On Good Friday I was able to drive down to Charleston for the day with a really awesome group of girlfriends! We were celebrating our friend, Ashley’s, 30th birthday. It was a quick trip, and rainy, but so nice to leave our mom duties behind for the day! The day involved shopping, eating, chatting, and fun drinks. We went to Hominy Grill for brunch, 5 Church for an afternoon cocktail, shopped on King St, then ate an early dinner on the patio at Taco Boy. We talked a lot (as girls do), and shared our motherhood fears, frustrations, and funny stories.
Resurrection Rolls/Empty Tomb Rolls
Have y’all ever made resurrection rolls with your kids for Easter? I read about them, then made them with Davis the Saturday of Easter weekend and we really enjoyed it. It was such a great visual representation of Jesus’ tomb, burial traditions, and resurrection. I followed this recipe from Lovely Little Kitchen.
I put together the boys’ Easter baskets that night after they went to bed. Their baskets are from a local boutique, but I found a really sweet option on etsy. This monogrammed bunny ears Easter basket can work for girls and boys and is just so precious! I accidentally went with an “April showers…” theme and bought the boys new rain boots, and a really cool shark umbrella for Davis. Those rain boots have really come in handy lately. Ridge brings them to me often, and is so sad when he can’t wear them!

Family Easter Pictures
We went to the early service at our church on Sunday morning to try and beat the crowd. After church we bribed Ridge with leftover resurrection rolls, pulled out the tripod, and took some family pictures. The behind the scenes of this situation involved fussing and threats and I was almost in tears. haha!! Isn’t it ridiculous how we can get so worked up about things that really don’t matter? We are rarely all dressed up and fixed, so I was determined to get a frame-worthy photo!
We’ve taken family pictures this way a couple of times – just running out in our front yard, setting up this very inexpensive tripod, using (this is a newer version of my discontinued camera – mine is old, this one is wi-fi enabled!) my basic digital camera quickly posing, and counting to 10! I love professional photos, but those aren’t realistic all the time.
My parents bought the boys matching shirts from Gap, and we decided they’d be perfect for their Easter outfits.
THIS IS WHAT THE PICTURE SESSION REALLY LOOKED LIKE. 🙂
Later that day we had lunch at my parents’ house. Her Easter table decor was beautiful!
Really really grateful, especially after all that has been going on in our lives lately, for parents who live close by. I take it for granted, but it is an enormous blessing.
Thank you all for stopping by! It is actually starting to feel like Spring around here – hallelujah for a warmer, sunny day. Happy Wednesday!
