Hooray for the weekend! I am on a girls getaway – more below – but I still wanted to join the usual Five on Friday; Oh Hey Friday; and Friday Favorites. See any of these girls’ blogs to participate! April, Christina, Natasha; Karli; Erika, Narci, Andrea.
ONE: Scarlet and Gold Shop Give Grace Campaign. This t-shirt is cute and serves an amazing purpose. The proceeds of this shirt go towards a campaign to raise money for parents faced with high financial demands through IVF or adoption.
The subject of infertility is always on my mind. Todd and I have been through years of infertility (2.5 years + a miscarriage before Davis, and 2 more years + another miscarriage since he was born. He is our miracle!). I posted more about that in this post from last year. We are moving forward in the process to become parents again, and I hope to be able to share more about that soon. We all know someone who is longing for a child, but to have a child through IVF or adoption is incredibly expensive. To help out, Scarlet and Gold Shop is selling these shirts to raise money. Go here to see more about their campaign.
*This is not sponsored. I was simply impressed and had to share!*
TWO: Chicken and Waffles Appetizer! I made these for a recent baby shower, and I will definitely serve them again! These were quite simple, and can be mostly made ahead, then assemble the day of.
They consist of homemade buttermilk square-shaped waffles, Chick-fil-A nuggets, and a spicy/sweet syrup. Each waffle had 4 squares, and I cut each square into 4 triangles. For the syrup, I mixed around 2 parts maple syrup : 1 part sriracha : 1 part whole grain dijon mustard (this is an estimation). I made the syrup and the waffles ahead of time, and keep the waffles in the freezer. I cut them and warmed them in the toaster oven right before the shower. Skewer the chicken nuggets and waffle triangles, and drizzle with the spicy syrup. Enjoy!
THREE: This one shows my vain side! I must confess that I am quite self conscious about my eyelashes. They do not show up at all without a few coats of mascara (mascara has ALWAYS been my fave makeup necessity). In today’s beauty culture, lashes are a must-have. Many people get eyelash extensions, but I honestly do not want to spend the time or money on that. I took a cue from Pretty in Pink Megan and Gal Meets Glam, and ordered Neulash. It is similar to Latisse, but it is cheaper, and it does not have to be prescribed by a dermatologist. Julia from Gal Meets Glam posted about it a couple of years ago. I ordered some this week, and will post about the progress in a couple months!
I was going to buy some new clothes, but I decided to get this instead. You know how it is – difficult choices in life. 😉
FOUR: This weekend I am at the mountains with some of my college roommates! We never ever see each other, so I am so excited for this getaway! This picture is from 2009 – hoping for as much fun as we had that weekend! 🙂
Unfortunately it is supposed to rain the entire trip. Hello, hurricane. :/ This rain jacket was the first item in my suitcase! I am quite positive it was the smartest purchase I’ve made all year! For a size reference, I wear a small.
FIVE: In honor of the weekend:

I have a North Face rain jacket & it’s the best— the water just glides right off. It would be wonderful if I could find it with this monsoon 🙂 Your chicken and waffles turned out great — I’ll definitely have to try it sometime!

Lauren, that North Face jacket kept me plenty dry during last weekend’s storm – thank goodness! Hope you’re having a great week!

I had no idea you guys were struggling with infertility. Scarlet & Gold is SUCH an amazing organization. I posted about it a few weeks ago… my husband and I have had some medical issues requiring surgery but we are just now starting to try to have children. No idea if we will have trouble or be blessed quickly. We pray for people struggling with infertility every single night. http://thedavisduo-owendavis.blogspot.com/2015/09/give-grace.html

Owen, I don’t discuss it much on my blog, but I probably should use this space more often to share my story. I will check out your post about Scarlet & Gold! Guess we were on the same page! I hope that your experience trying for a child is a positive one. I’ll be praying for you! That is very kind of you to pray for others struggling with infertility – I need to make that more of a habit.

With all the rain we’ve gotten the last 10 days, I was thinking I really need a rain jacket.
I also get together with my college roomies once a year! It’s always the best time, so many laughs and great food. Hope you had a blast.
Stop by and join in on our Tuesday Fashion Party Link Up each week, we’d love to have you join.
